Walker and her buddy Charlotte were great followers/admirers of Zora Hurston. One day they got the bright idea of trying to learn more about their beloved writer. Walker goes to Florida and meets up with her buddy Charlotte and start their "quest". They begin by questioning Hurston's niece and find out that Hurston moved away. Following that clue they start to gather up the most information that they can get in their hands and learn where she was buried at, after buying a tombstone for Hurston's grave they then, go out to discover more things about Hurston. Her real cause of death, her chubbiness, and her relationships which her neighbors.
During this "quest" Walker came across the problem of "How do I get them to tell me their information". Her answer was simple of course! Pose as Hurston's niece. Now being that no one really new Hurston's niece that well Walker was able to pull it off quite easily. But as Walker discovers more information she begins to realize that she is getting to know her roots more. Being able to see what people within the community react and think about certain subjects. She ends up thinking that she is one of Hurston's family members! So all in all this experience opened up Walker's and the world's eyes to Hurston and her writings, but it also showed Walker more about herself and where she came from and personally opened her eyes to who and what she is.
Good blog! i agree with you that she discovers herself through Hurston's life. Do you think that Walker is pleased with what information she has found?
ReplyDelete@Amanda I'm really sure that over the course of her discovery she started liking herself more due to the information she was getting.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think that Walker started thinking of herself as being relatives with Zora?
ReplyDelete@Christopher She began to assimilate into the character of Zora's niece. And She knew more information about her than the actual family members so she felt that she became apart of the family.
DeleteGreat Blog! Do you think that Walker would of liked to find out more things about Hurston?
ReplyDelete@Iliana Yes, everyone wants to expand their knowledge on a subject of interest and Walker is no exception.
DeleteDo you think she felt honored to be the one to tell this story? (Although they were not related at all.)
