Searchin' for a Hurston!

Walker and her buddy Charlotte were great followers/admirers of Zora Hurston. One day they got the bright idea of trying to learn more about their beloved writer. Walker goes to Florida and meets up with her buddy Charlotte and start their "quest". They begin by questioning Hurston's niece and find out that Hurston moved away. Following that clue they start to gather up the most information that they can get in their hands and learn where she was buried at, after buying a tombstone for Hurston's grave they then, go out to discover more things about Hurston. Her real cause of death, her chubbiness, and her relationships which her neighbors.
During this "quest" Walker came across the problem of "How do I get them to tell me their information". Her answer was simple of course! Pose as Hurston's niece. Now being that no one really new Hurston's niece that well Walker was able to pull it off quite easily. But as Walker discovers more information she begins to realize that she is getting to know her roots more. Being able to see what people within the community react and think about certain subjects. She ends up thinking that she is one of Hurston's family members! So all in all this experience opened up Walker's and the world's eyes to Hurston and her writings, but it also showed Walker more about herself and where she came from and personally opened her eyes to who and what she is.

A Year Full of Answers & Questions

This year will be that answers a lot of questions. Janie will be thrusted into a new relationship with Jody Starks. After a marriage with Logan Killicks, Janie is full of thought provoking questions, like: "When will I actually find TRUE love in my life?" As she continues through her new marriage, questions that Logan left her will hopefully be answer by Jody.
Hopefully, Janie will be happy with Jody and her new life of not being bossed around by Logan. But other instances lead me to believe that she will not be happy about the new life and Jody will leave her with even more questions about "how she didn't know", and etc. We, as the readers, can only hope that one day Janie will find her TRUE love and be happy. This year there will be definitely filled with answers to questions not yet answered, but also new questions that seeking an answer to them.

Discover Yourself ~ Journey Time!

Journeys are taken by many people across the world. There are many different kinds of journeys but the most prevalent ones are about finding something, whether it be and object or something thought provoking. One thing people and search for is who they are. Journeys of self-discovery are made by people who are unknowing of themselves.
Usual journeys of self-discovery begin with the adventurer realizing that there is something about themselves that they did not know previously. They proceed to ask the many different people that they know in order to solve this dilemma. Unable to quickly solve it the adventurer is left puzzled and with the decision to either leave it as it is or to go on a "Journey of Self-Discovery". (see what I did there?) Now to make a good story the adventurer usually chooses the option to go on that journey. This usually entails traveling far and wide to solve this issue; asking questions on who they are and what is it that they are doing there.
(WARNING: Random obscure video game example that is skip-able!)
In a more recent (not really) video game, "Okamiden" one of the main character's partner, Kuni, is discovered to be and adopted child who's origin is unknown. At the end of the game the child himself discovered the truth that he was adopted and wants to learn the truth from his so-called "parents". As they are both unknowing when it comes to his origin, he is met with the dilemma of "how do I figure this out?" Of course he decides to go on the journey to "Discover himself and his origins".
This example shows what a "Journey of Self-Discovery" really is. It is a journey that one takes in order to discover certain facts about their being that they might not know themselves. So, as yourself, is it your journey time?

Situations: Finding YOUR voice!

There is a common misconception going around the air. In most situations it is difficult to find one's voice. I am here to debunk this. There is no reason why a person would need to find it difficult to find their OWN voice. Someone's voice is based upon their own opinion on the current subject matter. The first step in developing your voice is to look at your situation. An example is band, one student might make the careless assumption that, "TEH CLARINETZ R TEH B3ST S3CTION IN ZEH WORLDZ!!!" Now, to develop my voice in this matter is to first make an opinion, which is, no the trumpets are considered to be the best section. Why? Because they are loud, sound amazing, and have the biggest egos in the world. Bam. My voice. Almost like a thesis statement for an essay. Easy.
There is absolutely no reason what so ever that anybody under the right mind should find it difficult to find their voice in situations. Now one may make the argument, let's go extreme for a moment, "What if the people who are asking for your opinion have a GUN POINTED TO YOUR FACE?!" The answer to that is simple, of course it will very difficult for someone to develop their opinion on ANY subject, because now it is a matter of life or death. Anyways I digress.
The point is that sure, there are certain situations where it is in fact hard to form one's voice, but there is more situations where it is easier to form such a voice. Boom, Roasted.

Questions for the Great Gatsby

1. Why does Gatsby act like a stalker, trying to communicate with Daisy after years of being broken up with her? Even to go as far as buying a house near her?

2. Why does Gatsby act embarrassed when he was introduced to Tom?

3. Is there a internal reason for why Gatsby throws such big parties?

4. Why does Tom not find Daisy interesting, but still treats Mrytle like she is less than that of Daisy?

The Proprietor Himself

The interior was unprosperous and bare;
the only car visible,
was the dust-covered wreck,
of a Ford which crouched in a dim corner.
It had occurred to me,
that this shadow of a garage must be a blind,
and that sumptuous,
and romantic apartments were concealed overhead,
when the proprietor himself appeared in the door of an office,
wiping his hands on a piece of waste.
He was a blonde,
spiritless man,
anaemic and faintly handsome.
When he saw us,
a damp gleam of hope sprang,
into his light blue eyes. (Fitzgerald 29)

Social Class Stereotypes Are True

Social classes carry many things with them, such as groups of people first impressions, and stereotypes. For example, when you see people from the lower classes of people like hobos, the first thought that everyone has is, "Wow that guy is probably a thief that gets drunk all the time." And for the most part this is true. Most people of hobo origin have many problems with them. Whether it is a drinking problem, mental issue, or financial trouble there is something that went wrong in their lives. In my case I'm apart of the Mexican-American social class, so in stereotypes I am poor and live a life of cheap entertainment. For the most part this is most definitely true. I am in a little financial trouble but I'm good and as far as cheap entertainment goes, in my childhood this was true always. To me, base on my personal experience, I felt that there was always some social class that was better than mine. And that was true, the higher class of people! (Duh!) The stereotypes include that people of a higher class have tons of money, and great entertainment opportunities. And like the other classes these for the most part are true. So in summary, class stereotypes can hold true for most people and there are always social classes that are better than the one you are in as of right now.

Apperances, Are They Deceptive?

People judge others this is apparent everywhere in today's world. But are these appearances deceptive? The question is always met with the cliche response of "You can never judge a book by its cover." But even though this is a cliche it still holds some truth to it. There are people who look opposite from what they are. A great example would be my father's boss. He dresses normally and looks like anyone else. The catch is that he is rich, as rich as someone who owns a successful business can get. No one would be able to tell the difference if they had just met him.
We as a whole community base a lot of our opinons on first impressions. Apart from how they talk people look for how the other person presents him/herself. If the person looks crappy then most people would not want to talk to that person because of the  assumptions that are being made already.
Values are substantial in America for everyone. Everyone values a good society with swell living conditions as well as a good economic standard. They want people to look good period. When it comes to me I am split when dealing with significant others. It will appeal to me the most if the person I'm with looks good. But it could also be the exact opposite where looks don't mean anything an the person is great morally and mentally. Money is also a factor, not a really big factor but one nonetheless. If the significant other is not going to have or even able to get at least enough money to support half of the family then I lose interest. My values come first when thinking about anybody else. But even though my values are high, I can just as easily be deceived by appearances as anyone else. So appearances are deceiving most of the time.

Assimilation, Who Does It Apply To... The Weak?... The Strong?

Assimilation, the very thing that almost everyone from any ethnicity, race, or minority can relate to. When one assimilates to something or some group what is he/she doing, to themselves and their original culture? The answer is that they are changing it, some more drastic than others. More like "Out with the old and in with the new" kind of deal. Basically these "assimilators" are changing their so-called "plate of life" with another to make their lives a lot more better in the long run. Now for what reason someone would want to do this to themselves is too much to write down. In A Raisin in the Sun Beanetha shows a great amount of assimilation. Beanetha wants to assimilate into the white society from her black roots. This play shows her assimilation as a strength because out of all the people who are living in the apartment she is the most ambitious in wanting to become a doctor and she is the only one that is showing any kind of assimilation towards any different culture. Everyone has to meet at least someone that is like Beanetha one day or another. I know that I have met one because I am one myself. People assimilate by stopping themselves from taking part in their culture and essentially joining another one which is what assimilation is in a nutshell. Like I said before, there are many reasons why someone would want to assimilate themselves into another culture, in fact there are too many to list. A select few are that someone just doesn't like their family all too much and want to essentially "join another type of family". Someone could be ashamed at what has happened to their culture in the past years and doesn't want to be labeled as someone who is apart of that culture. Or someone wants to escape persecution from being apart of that culture from other cultures. I am apart of the "assimilators" because of reasons all to obvious. Another great example on how other people view assimilation is present in Eric Liu's essay "Notes of a Native Speaker". In this essay Liu describes his life story and how assimilation shaped his life now. Liu describes assimilation as another gateway of life that people can take in order to get different opportunities in their life. He also mentions that when one assimilates they are changing who and what they are (essentially leaving their old life but not really). Past cultural traits are not completely lost but they are lost to the point that when being around strangers they are no longer present. Assimilation changes what one is and is aimed towards the weak and strong individuals of the world.

My Family Over Myself? Hmm... What To Say...

What is more important to me, family or individual desires? For me it would have to be my family, now granted you could look the other way and say that my desires and goals that I set myself are number one and should be attended to first, but it's how one gets to those desires. For me to achieve these desires I have to use human resources to help me along the way, weather it be for moral support or general advice. My family is one of those resources. Whatever my goal happens to be I know that I can count on them to help me get that "edge" over the competition. Without my family I am pretty sure that I would not be in this position that I am in right this very moment. I create my own building blocks for my own life but my family is the glue that sticks them all together. One block might be to become great at something and I might not be able to "put the pieces" together. Then here comes the family to the rescue! They help glue that metaphorical gap shut and allow me to preform that art to the best of my abilities. No matter what the case maybe I seem to always fall back on my family to raise my hope of completing this cases. A great example happens mostly everyday this school year, I usually stay up late doing homework and my brother will as stay up with me to see if I have any questions that he can answer to the best of his abilities. My family has always been there for me whenever I needed something and that is something that I shall never forget. Throughout the years of my life my family has shown me this and I now understand that while individual desires may seem all too important, they are meaningless and non-existent without a  strong family for assistance.

The American Dream and My Thoughts

The American Dream according to me is to be successful and have a great life. Being successful in America is comprised of many things, having a great job that you can will enjoy everyday, earning a good amount of money that is sustainable, and having a great place to live which includes buying land and building a home. Now this particular dream is available to anyone in the country, but most people don't achieve this. They instead go the more lenient route which is like living in the suburbs of America.
That's my dream, not to be the stereotypical person "That is living the so- called American Dream", buy some land somewhere, become a billionaire by some various reasons, I want to be just a typical person "livin' the suburban life". I want to have a regular home in the suburban area and have a decent paying job that I like. It is a very simple dream that almost anyone can complete, but that is enough to make my life complete. That is all that matters.

About Me In A Four Finger Length Style

Greetings and Salutations! My name is Miguel Cardenas and welcome to my blog! This is my very first blog- like thing and I hope that it comes out great. Anyway about myself, I am currently a Junior at Southwest High School. I really love computers and all that jazz. I play an instrument which is the Trumpet and I like to think that I'm an OK type of good at it. The English course that I'm taking this year is called English Three Dual Credit otherwise known as Freshman Composition. What I'm expecting from this year based on the first couple of weeks is that I'm going to be doing a lot of work and I better start enjoying it now. I have a few goals that I had set for myself that are marked for completion by the end of this year which are to be Comp-Tia A+ Certified (and hopefully Network +) and to learn how to type properly without looking at the keyboard. Hopefully I'm in for another great year that is ten times better than the last year. That was about me is a four finger length style! Now without further ado, let's get blogging I hope you enjoy whatever it is that I will post on here in the later days!
